![]() There are some leather fibers sticking out and a lot of irregularities, but that's where the beauty is. When wood handles are used and finished to a plastic finish, I wonder, what's the point of using wood? Why not just use plastic? So I like to leave my stuff to look like it really is. I think imperfect materials are beautiful when they are used and left to appear to be imperfect. If the glue doesn't hold up, it's no big deal, I'll just cut the handle off and make a new one. If the glue holds up, the fibers will wear out before the handle breaks down. But with it's penetrating properties it should be a good performer. I've never used it before with leather as I always had something else on hand. The only weak link in this is the Gorilla glue. When it dries, it's very hard, not pliable anymore. The heat causes the wax to seep into the leather fibers. ![]() ![]() I mix bees wax and canning wax, heat it in a double boiler to make a liquid and dip the leather in the liquid wax. I use the same method when sealing knife sheaths. Then used a dremel tool and reamed it out to the proper size.Īccording to my plan, the glue in the knot hole will seal and permanently waterproof the unwaxed hole, and the wax will seal the outside. I just used a 3/4 spade bit and a battery drill and drilled it out. With the leather glued and waxed, it reacts like soft wood. ![]()
